More to the Story

Harry Sanchez, librarian at Davenport Middle School, just met Sally Attridge 5th grade teacher. Harry is beginning the process of collaboration with Sally, who is a somewhat reluctant participant. But Harry is committed to collaboration with classroom teachers and sees a need to support Sally and her students as he looks over the information he recently collected in a curriculum map.

Harry is also committed to fostering inquiry learning in the students at Davenport. He thinks about ways in which students might be encouraged to ask their own questions about the country they have chosen to study as a way to infuse inquiry into this paricular learning experience from the very beginning. He thinks that this strategy might get students to explore topics they might not have considered.

Things to Ponder

  1. How might Harry teach students to pursue their interests and to ask higher-level questions about their topic?
  2. In what ways might technology help Harry accomplish this?
